Haas reveal new car, the VF-18, with first look

First look at F1 2018 as Haas win the race to launch first with new VF-18; Halo head protection device to feature on all cars this year

Haas have become the first team to reveal their halo-equipped 2018 F1 car, with images of the new VF-18 unexpectedly released online.

The American outfit had kept their launch plans under wraps but released computer-generated images of their new car and revised livery in a video on social media.

In a Formula 1 first, all cars must be fitted with the halo head protection device and Haas are the first team to show how it has been incorporated into their new design. The device has been painted black in line with the team’s three-colour livery, which has been tweaked for 2018.

“The biggest part of the car’s evolution was the addition of the halo,” said Haas team boss Guenther Steiner. “It took quite a bit of study by the aerodynamicists, but the designers had to work hard to modify the chassis so the halo could survive the mandated loads.
