Porsche teases one-off Project Gold for 70th anniversary

Porsche is teasing a new one-off car for its 70th anniversary as a carmaker. Dubbed Project Gold, it will be auctioned off to the highest bidder upon completion.

The project is being undertaken by Porsche Classic, which specializes in restoration of the company’s historic models. In the first video, titled “The Vision,” the description implores us to “experience the development of a vehicle that has never been seen before.” In the clip, we see a designer sketch a 911 with a wide, low stance.

Meanwhile, the covers are lifted off a bare-shell 993, hinting that it will serve as the basis for Project Gold. “The inspiration – based on a classic body – was individualized by Porsche designers,” the description continues.

Porsche intends to reveal a new video documenting the build every week until its reveal. Their titles indicate what part of the car the videos will feature. Next up is “Lacquer and Laser,” “Seam and Stitch,” “Protect and Preserve,” and “Engine and Electrics.” The car will be revealed online on August 24 and shown in public at Rennsport Reunion on September 27 at Laguna Seca. Finally, it will be auctioned off at the RM Sotheby Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia on October 27.
