GM considering all-electric Hummer?

The brand could be resurrected for a new line of luxury off-road SUVs.

General Motors is reportedly considering reviving Hummer in the era of electrification.

Best known for its large gas-guzzling SUVs, the Hummer brand was acquired by GM in 1998 and retired in the wake of the company’s 2009 bankruptcy.

The automaker is now exploring the possibility of building a new line of luxurious Hummer-badged SUVs with pure electric powertrains, according to Bloomberg.

Before the brand was shelved, GM revealed the HX Concept (pictured) as an obvious Jeep Wrangler rival with a smaller footprint than the H2 and H3.

A few plug-in hybrid Hummer H3 SUVs have already been on the road, built by Raser. The company in 2009 attempted to purchase rights to the Hummer brand. The deal ultimately fell through, however.
