The organizers have announced its readiness to make the MotoGP “PTT THAILAND GRAND PRIX” more successful than last year when the 2nd edition of the world class motorcycling event is held at Chang International Circuit, Buriram on 4-6 October.

Worawit Techasupakura, RTN., vice minister attached to the ministry of Tourism and Sports, said during the press conference at the Sports Authority of Thailand (Hua Mark) that the last year’s PTT THAILAND GRAND PRIX, the first-ever MotoGP event in Thailand, has been hailed as a great success in terms of both competition and tourism. The three-day extravagant, held at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, attracted 222,535 people, the highest number of audiences among 19 MotoGP events. They enjoyed and became impressed at the inaugural competition, which was later named the Best Grand Prix of The Year by IRTA and Dorna Sports. Importantly, it helped boost the country’s economy.
According to the poll conducted by the Tourism and Sports Ministry, foreigners accounted for 20 % all the fans and the event generated about 3.1 billion baht for the country. It also boosted the local economy in Buriram and its neighboring provinces.
Its revenues were from accommodations, food and beverage sales, travels, and souvenirs.
“Apart from underlining Thailand as the world’s Sport Hub, the event is instrumental in implementing the national sport development plan and laying foundation for the growth of sport tourism. That will promote the tourism in the country and boost the sport-related industries including motorsports,” he said.
Among the most impressive ones is the Shuttle Tan, the local E-Tan truck used as the shuttle bus at the event. Its unique and interesting characters easily won praise from the international press who played a key role in promoting the country’s cultures across the world. This is in accordance with the sport tourism policy and as the government agency, the Tourism and Sports ministry will continue supporting the event to make it even better this year. He added.
Kongsak Yodmanee, governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) said that the inaugural event proved it successful last year when it was broadcast to 207 countries with viewers of more than 800 million. Journalists from 435 news agencies in 33 countries came to cover the Buriram event and that can show our potentials as the world’ sports organizers. Hosting the MotoGP will benefit the local riders who are given a chance to improve their skills. Last year, there were five Thai representatives in three classes (one in Moto2, three in Moto3 and one in MotoE). This year, Somkiat “Kong” Chandra from Idemitsu Honda Team Asia has confirmed to join the Moto2 world championship and more riders are expected to join the events to take place.
“With its huge success last year, the 2019 PTT THAILAND GRAND PRIX is believed to attract more fans, both Thais and foreigners. This will help generate incomes for the country,” Kongsak said.
Buriram governor Teerawat Wutthikhun, meanwhile, said that as the host venue for the world class event for the second straight year, everything has been in place to welcome all the riders, their teams, audiences and visitors. Accommodations, food and all the infrastructures are ready. Safety is the top priority. Last year, all the hotels in the province are fully booked well before the event. This year, more tent spaces will be provided while the hotels in neighboring provinces including Surin, Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen, are contacted to prepare more rooms for the visitors during the event.
Jiraporn Khaosawat, Chief Executive Officer and President, PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (PTTOR), said that it is a great honor for the company to sponsor the PTT THAILAND GRAND PRIX for two consecutive years.

Tanaisiri Charnwittayarom, managing director of the Buriram United International Circuit, said that the race will be more competitive this year because many riders have joined new teams. Additionally, the companies make a full use of advanced technology to develop their motorbikes for the riders.
“As the host, we are sure to better serve our visitors this year. We learn a lot from last year. We will improve and give the best for our visitors,” Tanaisiri said.
“The E-Tan truck will be used to shuttle the fans and there will be more entertainment activities including muaythai, concerts, souvenir shops. It will be much bigger than last year.”
The ticket for the PTT THAILAND GRAND PRIX 2019 goes on sale on February 28. It remains the world’s cheapest tickets for the MotoGP event. With only one ticket, you can watch the MotoGP, World Superbike and Asia Road Racing and you can also watch each event for three days. The three-day tickets for Grand Prix are priced at 4,000 baht for Grand Stand, Rossi Stand and Marquez Stand, and 2,000 baht for Side Stand.
