TechRide: Continental Sets Safe Mobility, Green and Vehicle Connectivity as Priorities for Thailand

• The first TechRide held by Continental Automotive in Thailand to present the company’s latest mobility innovations

• Continental has been providing solutions for cleaner air, accident-free and comfortable driving to make people life better.

Bangkok, November 26, 2018 – The technology company Continental held “Thailand Technology Ride” for the first time to showcase its latest mobility technology and innovations during November 26-30 at Motor Sport Park. By analyzing the trends in the sector and listening to the demands of the consumers, Continental has developed a series of advanced technologies specially engineered for automated driving, electrification and connectivity for clean environment, zero accident and comfortable driving.

The automotive industry is being shaped by the evolving needs of today’s consumers in all parts of the world. The demands include safe mobility, clean technology and connectivity. “Our aim is to be ready to fulfill these demands – to reduce the number of traffic related fatalities, to protect resources available on our planet as well as to increase intelligent mobility for easy and comfortable driving,” said Mr. Peter Rankl, President Continental Automotive ASEAN.

High road fatality remains a critical issue in Thailand. With our intelligent mobility solutions developed to provide both active and passive safety, the accidental rate can be significantly reduced.

“The TechRide event is designed to offer the holistic learning experience in mobility solutions. Participants have the opportunity to personally discover and test a range of state-of-the-art automotive functions equipped in the demonstration vehicles and the exhibition. They also have a chance to exchange an informative dialogue with our expert from three automotive divisions,” he added.

As one of the pioneering technology and service companies, Continental has brought a variety of components and systems to display at the TechRide.

To meet the customer requirement, Continental brings the integrated active and passive safety technologies as well as products that support vehicle dynamics. The product portfolio ranges from electronic and hydraulic brake and chassis control systems to sensors, advanced driver assistance systems, airbag electronics and sensorics. The product highlights are Electric Parking Brake (EPB) for the light compact cars with drum brakes to reduce cost, weight and size for car manufacturer; Integrated Brake System MK C1 for highly automated driving; Long Range Radar for supporting autonomous emergency braking at crossing traffic and intersections, while also detecting motorbikes and cyclists; Vehicle to Everything (V2X) for connecting vehicles, with the infrastructure and other road users for warning of potentially hazardous situations.

Furthermore, Continental presents information management solutions in vehicles to make the vehicle of the future more user-friendly, more comfortable, safer and more intelligent. The product portfolio for different types of vehicles includes: instrument clusters, infotainment systems, control panels, cockpits as well as services and solutions for telematics and Intelligent Transportation Systems. Key as a Service (KaaS) is one of the showcased products that allows drivers to download a car key and open a vehicle via the smartphone. It is a perfect solution for car sharing, rental fleets and for families. In addition, the Full Digital Instrument Cluster is one of the highlights, which are tailored as well for commercial vehicles to provide driver HMI with full design freedom.

Continental put also a big focus on electrification technologies and emission control solutions for a clean environment. The showcased products include 48V Mild Hybrid system for both diesel and gasoline engines application for reducing emissions and increasing comfort. Latest generation of Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) for enabling more precise torque or load control on gasoline combustion engines (including CNG/LPG and Ethanol flex-fuel applications). Together with a state-of-art Smart NOx Sensor technology to optimized urea dosing and to diagnose the operation of the SCR system which leads to reducing Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions.

Continental develops pioneering technologies and services for sustainable and connected mobility of people and their goods. Founded in 1871, the technology company offers safe, efficient, intelligent and affordable solutions for vehicles, machines, traffic and transportation. In 2017, Continental generated sales of €44 billion and currently employs more than 244,000 people in 61 countries and markets.
