Date: 09 July 2024 | Bangkok, Thailand

• The fully electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge models are renamed EX40 and EC40 respectively
• The new Black Edition models come with Onyx Black paint, high gloss black badging, 20-inch five-spoke alloys in high gloss black and charcoal interiors.
• The new upgrade includes the introduction of the new Sand Dune exterior colour option.

Volvo Car Thailand is streamlining and standardising its model names for fully electric cars in Thailand with the introduction of EC40 and EX40. At the same time, the company is also introducing a special Black Edition for both models.

The fully electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge models have been renamed EX40 and EC40 respectively, now seamlessly fitting in with its recently launched fully electric model – EX30. The update also includes the removal of Recharge badging from its plug-in hybrid models.

“By aligning our trailblazing first electric models with the rest of our electric car portfolio, we simplify choice for consumers as we continue to electrify our line-up. The new and streamlined model name standard makes it even easier for existing and new customers to understand which of our models are fully electric and which are hybrids, as they shop for a new Volvo car,” says Mr. Chris Wailes, Managing Director, Volvo Car Thailand.

In addition to the new names, Volvo Car Thailand is also introducing the upgrade of EC40 and EX40 to include a Black Edition.

The EC40 and EX40 were designed to be easy on the eye and for a diverse lifestyle. The unique combination of design and versatility make the cars a perfect match for those who refused to be defined by one role.

The name says it all: this new version is finished exclusively in Onyx Black and features a number of additional black details to give the car a unique, head-turning look. For example, the Volvo Cars logo, lettering, model and engine emblems are all in high gloss black, as are the 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

The dark colour scheme continues in the interior: a sports steering wheel with a dynamic grip and headliner are in charcoal. A dark interior featuring premium – charcoal Connect Suede Textile/Microtech upholstery. The all-black look for both the exterior and the interior gives the cars additional sportiness and elegance.

The layout of the interior gives a sense of organisation and thoughtfulness, where functionality is key. The ‘uncluttering’ approach of both cars provides smart and thoughtful ways to store all-important belongings within arm’s length. Minimalism is an overarching theme, which becomes even more evident when looking at the instrument panel.

A contrasting black roof of the upgraded version gives both cars a distinguished look and a new Sand Dune exterior colour option has also been introduced to both EC40 and EX40 models.

The EC40 and EX40 are as compelling as ever with one of the best infotainment systems on the market, jointly developed with Google and based on the Android operating system. It provides consumers with Google apps and services built-in, such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Google Play Store.

The all-wheel-drive Twin Motor* provides a greater driving range – up to 650 kilometres in the EC40 and 645 kilometers for the EX40. It has a 82kWh battery and a 408hp electric motor on the rear axle that produces 670Nm of torque. The maximum charging speed for replenishing the battery is 200kW DC.

The rear-wheel-drive Single Motor* provides a greater driving range – up to 590 kilometers in the EC40 and 565 kilometers for the EX40. It has a 69kWh battery and a 238hp electric motor on the rear axle that produces 420Nm of torque. The maximum charging speed for replenishing the battery is 150kW DC.
