Volvo reveals redesigned S60 sedan

The T8 Twin Engine AWD plug-in hybrid powertrain will deliver 415 horsepower in the Polestar Engineered package.

Volvo has revealed the next-generation S60 sedan, the first Volvo to be manufactured in the US.

The redesigned S60 aligns with the company’s latest design language, adding Thor’s Hammer headlights and a new taillight design borrowed from the S90.

Two turbo- and super-charged plug-in hybrid powertrains will be available. The company’s T6 Twin Engine AWD generates a combined 340 horsepower, while the T8 jumps to 400 horsepower.

The new S60 is underpinned by Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, shared with the V60, XC60 and 90-Series models. The company describes the premium sedan as a sporty “driver’s car” thanks to active chassis and drive modes.

Drivers will benefit from City Safety with Autobrake, which automatically hits the brakes when the car encounters pedestrians, cyclists or large animals on the road. The optional Pilot Assist system will handle steering and speed on well-marked roads at speeds up to 81 mph.

A flagship Polestar Engineered package will bring the T8’s combined output up to 415 horsepower. The car’s wheels, brakes and suspension have also been upgraded.

The S60 will be produced at Volvo’s first manufacturing plant, located in Charleston, South Carolina.
