Lamborghini recalls Aventador SV to prevent ‘wheel detaching’

Lamborghini has issued a recall for its limited-edition Aventador Superveloce coupe and roadster.

Under extreme conditions, the drive pegs that center and support the brake discs to the wheel hub may become loose. The company received one report from Europe in 2016 of loose pegs, followed by a second report this year.

The wheel system is secured by a central lock, but Lamborghini engineers raised concerns that operating with loose pegs for a long time could cause the lock to fracture. Failure of the lock system could cause the wheel to completely separate from the vehicle.

Adding Loctite to the bolts apparently prevents loosening over time. Cars that are already on the road will receive new centering bolts with Loctite applied.

The campaign affects just eight vehicles sold in the US market.
