The latest Gazoo Racing model will debut at Tokyo Auto Salon next month.
Toyota has released a few more teasers for its upcoming GR Yaris, the latest performance-tuned model developed with help from the company’s Gazoo Racing division.
Unfortunately for US buyers, the GR edition will be based on the global Yaris hatchback rather than the entirely different Mazda2-based model sold in American showrooms.
The GR Yaris will take inspiration from Toyota’s return to the World Rally Championship, benefiting from the overseas Yaris’s all-wheel-drive platform. The purpose-built TGR race car achieved five wins in the 2018 season and took the manufacturer’s, driver’s and co-driver’s titles in the 2019 season.
The street-legal edition will presumably feature revised suspension, chassis bracing, sportier styling and a reworked interior. A bit more power is also possible, however official specs have not yet been confirmed.
The GR Yaris will make its first dynamic appearance next week at the Gazoo Racing festival before a full public debut at Tokyo Auto Salon in January.
