While Lamborghini has produced higher performance road variants of the Huracan and its predecssor the Gallardo, none of them have gone as far as this. With 640 hp, an 88 lb weight reduction, and numerous technical enhancements, the Performante rockets to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds, on up to a top speed of 202 mph.
That 640 hp is produced by the most powerful V10 ever placed by Lamborghini in a road car. The naturally aspirated engine reaches full power at 8000 rpm, with maximum torque of 443 lb-ft appearing at 6500 rpm. Despite those high numbers, Lamborghini claims high-torque availability throughout the engine range, with 310 lb-ft available as low as 1000 rpm. The engine draws heavily on the company’s motorsport program, with titanium valves, a new lightweight exhaust with reduced backpressure, and heads that have been massaged for better breathing. The engine is backed up by a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that has been optimized for the additional power.
Electromechanical steering is offered as standard, with variable ration Lamborghini Dynamic Steering as an option. They both been recalibrated over earlier version for optimal feedback in the three driver modes: Strada, Sport, and the track-oriented Corsa.
The body uses Lamborghini’s own active aerodynamic system, christened Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva, or ALA. When the ALA system is not in use, the active flaps inside the front spoiler are closed, generating maximum downforce. When ALA switches on, the front flaps are opened, reducing drag for improved acceleration. Similer mechanisms exist for the rear wing channels.
