2018 Audi R8 Spyder V10 plus

The engine in the R8 V10 plus is the most powerful production motor in Audi’s long history, with an output of 610 hp from its 5.2 liters. In spite of Audi’s long history with turbocharged engines, going back to the 1980 quattro, the V10 is naturally aspirated, revving to a maximum of 8700 rpms and with a high 12.7:1 compression ratio.

That output is a full 70 hp more than the R8 V10, with 0-62 mph coming up in 3.3 seconds, or .3 seconds faster than the non-plus V10. In spite of all this power, the R8 Spyder V10 plus gets relatively decent rating of 18.8 mpg, thanks to cylinder on demand which turns off one cylinder bank during normal driving. Start-stop technology deactivates the engine at traffic lights or whenever the car comes to a full stop. At speeds over 34.2 mph, the engine disconnects from the drive when the driver is not actively pressing the accelerator, allowing the vehicle to coast for greater efficiency.

The body is also 55 lbs less, coming in at 3499 lbs. The low weight stems from lightweight contoured R8 seats as standard, as well as carbon-ceramic brakes and alloy forged wheels.
