Aston Martin reveals flagship DBS Superleggera

The ‘Super GT’ features a carbon-fiber body and a twin-turbo V12 engine with 715 horsepower.

Aston Martin has revealed a new flagship ‘Super GT,’ reviving two storied names as the DBS Superleggera.

Like previous Superleggera-badged models, the new DBS focuses on lightweight construction with a carbon-fiber body on an aluminum chassis.

The company has tuned its 5.2-liter bi-turbo V12 to produce 715 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission.

The Vanquish S successor can hit 62 mph from a standstill in just 3.4 seconds, reaching 100 mph after 6.4 seconds and eventually achieving a top speed of 211 mph. Aston highlights its class-leading fourth-gear acceleration from 50-100 mph in just 4.2 seconds.

Complementing the extra power, the DBS Superleggera’s aerodynamic elements produce nearly 400 pounds of downforce at top speed — a new record for Aston Martin’s series production cars.

“We wanted to create a car that combined cutting-edge aerodynamics with the classic muscularity and presence for which our most potent series production models are renowned,” says Aston’s chief creative officer, Marek Reichman. “The result is a shape of true purity and exceptional efficiency – one that generates a significant increase in downforce without any drag penalty.”

The 2+2 GT will carry a $304,995 price tag when it arrives in the US, with deliveries expected to begin in the third quarter of the year.
