Bentley confirms Bentayga Speed, report says

Could the Speed-badged model get a coupe-like roof line?

Bentley has confirmed plans to build a range-topping variant of the W12-powered Bentayga, according to a recent report. The model will receive the coveted Speed nameplate.

We’ve heard rumors of a Bentayga Speed since the model made its official debut at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show. They were true; design boss Stefan Sielaff confirmed the model’s arrival in an interview with British magazine Autocar.

Bentley has used the Speed nameplate before, notably on a hotter version of its Mulsanne limousine. Designers will follow a slightly different recipe to create the Bentayga Speed. Sielaff revealed the hot-rodded model will represent a “big change” over the standard model. Though this is pure speculation, we’re not ruling out the possibility that the Speed will arrive with a more rakish roof line.

Sielaff stopped short of confirming technical details. We know the Speed will retain the Bentayga’s twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 engine. It makes 600 horsepower in its standard configuration, an output that allows the SUV to reach 60 mph from a stop in about four seconds flat and keep going until it reaches 187 mph.

Expect the Speed to post a zero-to-60-mph time of under four seconds. Rumors peg its top speed in the vicinity of 200 mph.

There’s another unknown factor in this equation: the Speed’s launch date. Bentley hasn’t officially announced the model so when we’ll see it in the metal is anyone’s guess at this point.
