CHANGAN is opening negotiations with automotive parts entrepreneurs in Thailand at the “Subcon Thailand 2024” event. The goal is to create business opportunities for local parts manufacturers, especially Thai SMEs, to integrate into CHANGAN’s supply chain. The company targets sourcing 60% of its parts from Thailand for use in its Rayong plant, thereby helping to elevate Thailand to become a leading global electric vehicle production hub.

Subcon Thailand 2024 is a premier industrial parts and business matching exhibition in ASEAN. This year marks a significant step towards industrial transformation. The Board of Investment (BOI) has brought seven major EV car manufacturers investing in Thailand to the event, led by CHANGAN, to share their experiences and discuss the future direction of the electric vehicle industry through the “BOI Symposium: EV Supply Chain” activities. The event will be honored by the presence of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who will preside over the opening ceremony.
Currently, CHANGAN has established three subsidiaries in Thailand as of August 2023, focusing on sales, manufacturing, and component operations, with an initial investment of 8.8 billion baht. The production base in Rayong will cover painting, assembly, engine assembly, and battery assembly.
The plant’s first-phase design anticipates producing up to 100,000 vehicles annually, with operations expected to begin in early 2025. Subsequently, the second phase will escalate the total production capacity to 200,000 vehicles annually, targeting the entire ASEAN market and the global right-hand drive market.
Mr. Shen Xinghua shared his appreciation to Thai customers that, CHANGAN DEEPAL S07 ranked first in BEV registration in April 2024. Additionally, the company is rapidly expanding its dealership network nationwide to provide better customer service.
“In the next five years, CHANGAN aims to launch more than 15 new electric vehicle models for Thai customers.” said Mr. Shen Xinghua.
As of supply chain strategy, CHANGAN will develop an open, transparent, collaborative and efficient supply chain system in Thailand to cover the demand in Southeast Asia region.
“We will do our best to cooperate with THAI suppliers. We expect that our localization rate of the first model in THAILAND will reach more than 60% Local Content. We promise to support Thai part makers and make Thailand to become an NEV supply chain of the industry.”
CHANGAN open the opportunity for Thai Suppliers. Recently, we had nominated Thai first Tier supplier to be part of our supply chain including Summit, Thai Summit, and AAPICO. We plan our purchase amount of 20 billion baht for our first car model which will start production in Thailand beginning of next year.
