Dacon, Asia’s leading Inspection and Rope Access Company has been awarded its first overseas ‘Wind Energy Project’ in Japan. The contract is an important one for Dacon and their specialist Rope teams. Shaun Knight, Dacon’s Wind Energy Section Manager explained, “winning the overseas contract has opened up a whole new market of international projects and clients for Dacon within the wind energy sector.
Dacon’s Rope Access technicians, specialise in accessing difficult-to-reach locations that can’t otherwise be accessed without using expensive scaffolding, lifts, or cranes. The Scope of work for Dacon’s Rope access teams at Japan’s Hibikinada and north port Sakata nearshore Wind Farms mainly consists of Close Visual Inspection, Maintenance, blade repairs and lightening receptor readings and inspections.
The Japanese Hibikinada – Sakata Contract was handed to Dacon on the back of the success of their largest wind energy project to date. On top of other numerous local projects Dacon are currently overseeing the ‘T5 Wind Energy’ project for General Electric in Northern Thailand. The ongoing project sees Dacon provide Internal installations via rope access consisting of cable hauling, electrically connecting primary power and control cables, and the installations of external security and internal tower lights, not forgetting Concrete tower repairs. Dacon is also responsible for installing safety features, such as guard rails, safety nets and lattice tower bracings. The installations are being carried out on 90X 156m high, 2.9MW hybrid towers where the onsite teams also provide the Large construction site with an on call, ”Work at height rescue team”. The project which started in May 2018 is due for completion in March 2019.
The clean fuel source that wind farms generate plays an essential part in renewable energy strategies world-wide. Dacon’s first overseas contract allows them to expand and diversify their services, taking on larger onshore as well as offshore projects.
