Images posted on a South Korean forum have revealed the updated 2020 Genesis G90 ahead of its scheduled unveiling. As predicted, the brand’s flagship sedan receives significant visual updates.
Published on a forum named Clien, the low-resolution photos show the G90 wears an updated front end with a wider rendition of the current model’s grille that incorporates honeycomb inserts, and more angular headlights each accented by a thin, long LED strip. The rear end gets a new horizontal lights connected by a light bar, a styling cue becoming hugely popular in the luxury car segment, but this isn’t a brand-new model so the shape of the body and the overall proportions remain the same.
The mid-cycle update could also include additional tech features and an array of mechanical modifications. The 2019 model is available with either a twin-turbocharged, 3.3-liter V6 rated at 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque or a naturally-aspirated, 5.0-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque on tap. Both engines shift through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
“The G90 has been reborn with cutting-edge technology and revamped in terms of design, convenience, safety and driving performance,” the company promised in a statement.
Genesis began selling the G90 in South Korea — where the model is called EQ900 — on November 12, according to The Korea Herald, so an official reveal is imminent. The American-spec model could break cover in late November at the Los Angeles auto show, Motor Authority reports, or the firm could choose to hold off on unveiling it until 2019. Either way, it will likely reach American showrooms in time for the 2020 model year.
