With cross-sector collaboration between Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Energy, responding to the government’s policy on renewable energy by producing B20 diesel and distributing to the public transport sector including BMTA and BorKorSor, in order to support local palm farmers and reduce air pollution.

Mr.Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Minister of Transport and Dr.Siri Jirapongphan, Energy Minister, presided over the opening ceremony of a campaign aimed at increasing B20 diesel consumption in the public transport; Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and The Transport Co., Ltd. (BorKorSor) at BMTA Bus Operation, Mega Bangna, Bangkaew Subdistrict, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan, along with Mr.Chansin Treenuchagron, President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT Public Company Limited, Mr.Prayoon Choygeo, Deputy Director (Bus Operation)of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, and Mr.Jirasak Yaovatsakul, President of the Transport Co., Ltd.

Energy Minister stated that, according to the increasing fluctuations in global oil prices, Ministry of Energy promoted B20 biodiesel to help maintain logistic costs and the cost of living for Thais, as well as helping oil palm farmers. The policy aimed at distributing 15 million liters of B20 diesel per day to trucks, buses, and passenger boats with the expectation to increase an amount of palm oil from 1.3 million to 1.7 million tons per year.

Minister of Transport revealed that, Ministry of Transport aimed at making public transport services more convenient, as well as subsidizing the cost of transportation for low-income people. Thus, we are willing to support Ministry of Transport’s policy in distributing B20 diesel to the public buses under Ministry of Transport, which are Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA)and The Transport Co., Ltd. (BorKorSor) while B20 diesel will be distributed by PTT Public Company Limited.

Deputy Director (Bus Operation) of BMTA said that, BMTA is delighted to be part of this project to help farmers. The B20 biodiesel feasibility study will be tested on five regular buses line 145 (Mega Bangna – Mo Chit 2) which are estimated to consume fuel of 400 liters per day or 12,000 liters per month. Also, there will be other five buses with similar engines which will be studied to measure the engine effectiveness and environmental impact in order to ensure the forthcoming usage expansion.

President of the Transport Co., Ltd. added that, with the mission to provide transportation service to commuters nationwide, BorKorSor is pleased to support the pilot project aimed at increasing B20 biodiesel consumption. Three buses (route Bangkok – Kamphaeng Phet / Bangkok – Buriram / Bangkok – Saraburi) with a total fuel consumption of 19,500 liter/month will be prepared for this project. Moreover, there will be a specific area to install oil tanks at Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak), Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road. BorKorSor will officially participate in the project for 1 year, starting from December 1, 2018.

President and Chief Executive Officer of PTT said that, The campaign is supported by Ministry of Finance and direct subsidies from the state oil fund. As a result, the price of B20 diesel will be cheaper than regular diesel 3 baht per liter, which help dropping mass transportation and logistic cost and the cost of living for Thais. This campaign will help oil palm farmers by preserving price stability for raw palm oil. As the state enterprise under Ministry of Energy, PTT has mission to ensure long-term energy security for the nation along with implement community, social, and environmental development for sustainable growth.
