Self-driving 1965 Mustang to tackle Goodwood Hillclimb

“Customising a 1965 Ford Mustang with autonomous technologies, we’re going to attempt the famous hillclimb autonomously for the first time in Goodwood’s history,” says Siemens CEO Juergen Maier.

A classic Ford Mustang will make a unique appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, attempting to complete the event’s first autonomous hillclimb.

The 1965-model-year pony car has been outfitted with modern sensors and control algorithms via a collaboration between Cranfield University researchers and engineering firm Siemens.

The team aims to bridge an emotional connection from classic automobiles to the future of autonomy, both in the automotive industry and industrial applications.

Unfortunately, there will be a human sitting in the driver seat due to safety regulations.
