The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport offers high levels of equipment, technology, safety and performance with a refreshed accessories package designed to further enhance the luxury of the popular model.

Mr. Morikazu Chokki, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “In 2017, we sold 14,454 units of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, as one of the leading model of the PPV segment. This proves Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is popular in the Thai market, and is known for its performance, advanced safety technologies and capabilities.”

“For 2018, we have maintained high levels of equipment and advanced technologies, including the engine with best-in-class performance, especially in terms of specific output. With the new package, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is one of the most fully-equipped all-round PPV in the market. We are confident it will help consolidate our leading position in the PPV segment,” Mr. Chokki added.

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport comes with 10 superior equipments to escalate its premium sportiness. Apart from a new glass antenna, all improvements are inside the vehicle, enhancing the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport’s equipment level as well as luxury. They include a console side garnish soft pad, a high contrast multi information with 3D animation display, and Nanoe air purifier1. Other convenient and luxury touches include a 220V AC power supply, 2 USB ports for second row seats, smartphone sockets on seat back pockets of driver and passenger, ticket holders on the sun visors for both driver and front passenger which now also come with illuminating lamps, and fin shut air vents at the second and third row seats.

All these are in addition to an spacious and highly versatile interior that is luxuriously-appointed, featuring dual-zone climate control, tilt-telescopic adjustable steering column, eight-way power-adjustable seats for driver and front passenger2, roof-mounted monitor with DVD player for rear passengers, auto-dimming rearview mirrors2 and rear climate control. The T-shaped high console puts all controls within easy reach of the driver including seven-inch touchscreen entertainment and navigation console2. The multi-function steering wheel houses controls for adaptive cruise control2, paddle shift for manual control of gear changes and audio controls.

Safety Technology

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport comes standard with advanced active and passive safety technologies. They include the Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM)2 that uses a millimeter wave radar gun to monitor the vehicle ahead to detect and avoid an impact, the Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS)2 that aims to avoid unintended acceleration forwards and rearwards while the vehicle is stationary, and Blind Spot Warning system (BSW)2.

In addition to collision mitigation systems, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport also comes with advanced stability systems such as the Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC) that regulates engine output and operates the brakes to limit wheel slip and prevent instability. It also features Hill Start Assist system (HSA) to prevent the vehicle from moving backwards on a gradient and Hill Descent Control (HDC)3 to maintain a constant speed for maximum traction and steering control while going down steep inclines. Other active safety systems include Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

For passive safety systems, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is equipped with 7 airbags3 – dual SRS airbags with on/off switch and light indicator for passenger side, side airbags for driver and front passenger, driver’s knee airbag, and curtain airbags, and two-way pretensioner with force limiter seatbelts for driver and front passenger3.

It also features a Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) Body – a construction using high-tensile steel to provide energy-absorbing elements against impact from all directions.

Comfort & Convenience

Advanced systems to aid driving convenience include the radar-guided Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)2. It maintains a preset distance to the vehicle in front, and if the vehicle in front slows down or stops, ACC will follow suit, maintaining a safe distance to the vehicle in front.

When it comes to parking, four cameras – one of each side of the vehicle and another one at the front and rear of the vehicle – make up the Multi-Around Monitor to give the driver a bird’s eye view of any obstacles around the perimeter of the vehicle on the touchscreen monitor. The area behind the vehicle is also displayed, along with active guidelines to aid parking.

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport also comes with the Electronic Time and Alarm Control System (ETACS). Unique to Mitsubishi Motors, the system controls all electrical components in the vehicle, including front-rear intermittent wipers, one-touch operate power window with safety system, automatic headlamps, assisted signals for lane changes, low light warning, emergency stop signal (ESS), speed-sensing automatic door locks, coming home and welcome lights, vehicle immobilizer and keyless operation system.

Driving Performance

Powering the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the proven aluminum alloy block 2.4L MIVEC VG Turbo Diesel engine performing with lower emissions and better fuel economy. Maximum power output is rated at 181ps at 3,500 rpm and torque at 430Nm at 2,500 rpm.

All these combine to make the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport a highly energy-efficient package, resulting in better running economy and fuel consumption. The optimal vehicle weight also enhances drivability and less wear and tear on consumables such as brakes and tires, while improving driving dynamics. With the combination of a double-wishbone, coil-spring and stabilizer-bar suspension in front and a three-link, coil-spring and stabilizer-bar setup in the rear, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is designed to provide superior driving dynamics and handling while offering a comfortable and luxurious ride.

Power from the engine channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission. With eight forward ratios, power is more efficiently harnessed, resulting in smoother accelerations and drive in addition to better fuel economy. The transmission also features Idling Neutral Control (INC) that reduces internal energy losses caused by torque converter drag when the vehicle is stationery with the gear selector in ‘D’. This feature also contributes to better fuel economy.

Known for its superior on- and off-road capabilities, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will continue to feature Mitsubishi Motors’ Super Select 4WD-II drivetrain – a system that uses an electric actuator to switch between different drive modes. This provides the maximum possible amount of traction at each wheel. The four drive mode include 2H (2WD High-Range), 4H (4WD High-Range), 4HLc (4WD High-range with Locked Transfer) and 4LLc (4WD Low-Range with Locked Transfer) for very tough and challenging conditions. The system also has shift-on-the-fly capability, and can be switched from 2H to 4H and 4HLc.

To further enhance traction, the system also comes with four off-road modes, selectable via a switch next to the drive mode selector. The four modes are Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand and Rock – the ECU will automatically adjust engine output, transmission settings and braking to optimize performance, based on the selected mode.

Putting the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport further ahead of its class in off-road capabilities is the Rear Differential Lock, which works in conjunction with the Center Differential Lock. When engaged, the system will lock the rear differential, resulting in a consistent 50-50 power distribution to the rear wheels. This is an important feature in really tough off-road conditions.

The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport are available in 3 variants with prices starting from THB1,296,000 for 2WD GT, from THB1,399,000 for 2WD GT-Premium, and from THB1,539,000 for 4WD GT-Premium. 5 body colors are offered; White Pearl, Stering Silver, Titanium Gray, Deep Bronze, and Diamond Black. At this level of equipment, technology, safety and performance, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand is confident the highly competitive new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will remain a firm favorite in the Thai market.
